    Default Dunlin

The other night I had a nice opportunity at a Dunlin standing on a hill. I kind of like the incline. I crawled up to a flock of shorebirds and got within 3 feet at times, with the birds preening and resting at arms length and at ground level. This was photographed at only 260 mm at a very low angle and is 95% of the original frame.

    Ryan:
It is a fun pose, great shooting angle, sharp, well exposed. I might lighten the dark patch just in front of the head.

Not sure why you have two images posted. Tell me which one you want to keep, and I can delete the other.

    Cheers

Lovely light, tack sharp, good low angle. Agree with Randy on the dark patch in the front. If I were you I would have tried to reduce it.

Sweet shot. I really like the one legged stand, excellent details, very nice light, and great shooting angle.
    Well done.

Nice relaxed pose on this adult bird with some interesting traces of breeding plumage still present.
The low angle is excellent, and overall it's a well composed frame. I like the idea of lightening the
background element in front of the bird's face...

Shawn. Not! This is a classic juvie Dunlin molting to first winter plumage. See the rufous edgings on the retained scapulars and the molted wing coverts. Only the juvies have spots on the bellies in fall. You need to get yourself a copy of my Shorebirds: Beautiful Beachcombers.

I like the image. EXP and SH good. Moving a bit to your right to better parallel the subject would have worked for me. The darker areas (o-o-f birds???) are mildly distracting.

Thanks all. I will see about the dark area in front of the bird. The OOF dark areas in the background are indeed birds (good call Artie). Shawn, Artie beat me too it. This is a classic juvenile Dunlin (see points noted above).

Great job getting close...shorebirds are fun when they allow that aren't they! Love the sloping ground. Very sharp and detailed. The OOF could be toned down a bit as mentioned. I like this lots!
