I love foreground to background blurs. Shoot "through" something in the foreground, and if the light is right
and the background is similar in color and tonality, some creative and interesting things can happen. This image
was made by an old beaver dam. If you look close, you will see the perch is an old beaver chew. The beavers
were trapped out a while ago. There are ponds on either side of the strip of the land that the beaver lodge was
built on, so there is typically water, natural food, (my own food), and I also use mp3 calls to try and attract any birds
that I see or here nearby. White crowned sparrows do not nest in Minnesota, where this image was made.
However, I have found that some will still respond with interest to bird calls, particularly when there is food and plenty of
cover to be had. On this day, the light was quite diffused. I used a low shooting angle to shoot through a log that
was in front of me, within my MFD. The background, made of dead snags and far off habitat created the background.
There was a pinch of stick coming into the frame from the right hand side that I cloned out. I also removed a few seed
bits from the bird's bill. This "perch" was not set up, though I did have several perches set up nearby.
