I have the full image but just liked the crop. 20% of original.
A young bull elk, not ideal light, mid afternoon, but you take them when you see them!

Nice color and detail in the fur and antlers of this youngster. I also like the little bit of grass hanging out both sides of the mouth.
Hi Dan, I would run a mask on this to reduce the brightness of the fur. Crop wise it doesn't do it for me I am afraid but if your keen on the crop yourself maybe add a touch more to the bottom of the frame.
Nice sharpness and IQ by the way.
Jamie
Hi Dan, very nice indeed, the IQ is one of your best.
I can see what Jamie is referring too, however I think it is just down to the content of the shot being very 'vertical'. If you keep the ratio crop as is 3x2 and drag the crop in from the LH corner with the thirds grid highlighted, then having the eye line of the first 1/3 and in the middle, (basically loosing some of the body at the foot), might create another option, albeit tighter? Might be tempted just to open the nose up a fraction regarding the shadows.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
Good crop suggestions above. Light well handled. And crop well handled (you're making it hard for me to put off getting that D800!)
Lovely DOF and BG too.
I agree with Jamie on running a burned highlights luminosity layer...
Hi Dan - While I think the head and face have good detail I was immediately drawn to the hot highlights on the body. Jamie's suggestion is a good one. Too bad it is already such a large crop already, doesn't give you a lot of options to crop more.

Rachel
Very nice IQ and a really appealing portrait...Nice one Dan!
