Here's a really big chap standing guard over young in the nest. Unfortunately they dont show themselves that much so I couldnt get the youngsters.
Angle not ideal but at this location the nests are built on hi man made platforms. Located in Orique Portugalm there are many nests. This is where I will be living for the next year, leaving on Monday next week.
The storks will not be there yet, they arrive back in November and should provide me with a lot of fun.

Anyways, this is almost full frame, has had NR to BG and some adjustments in curves/S&H.

The details have held up pretty well to the crop. I like the feeling of the "mass" of the nest.
Bird's head angle is decent. The shooting angle is too steep, and the light is quite contrasty
for all the shadow areas of the nest...

    Hola Richard!
Nice looking bird. I don't mind the steep shooting angle but I wish the light was not so harsh. I would crop on top if it was mine.

Great shot despite the harsh light. Nice view of the massive nest and nice pose.
    Well done.

    Thanks all

yes midday sun is difficult lol

These nests are fascinating, massive and complex structures and become eco systems themselves. Sparrows are based in the nest too
I think to feed on insects attracted to the mess? All manner of things seem to live along with the storks! I will be able to observe round a whole year.

Did you know the same nest is used every year. Storks are steeped in human history being a creature that likes to live close to humans.
