I had just commented to somebody that I hadn't seen any Yellowlegs this year, and now the day after that, low and behold I got one...and a cooperative "Greater" to boot! Some of the bushes across the bay are already turning colour, and with a low angle I was able to include those colours as the BG and for reflection. Yes, I got pretty muddy for this one too.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handhled, about 80% FF, a few pieces of debris patched out in the water.
Wonderful colours, a great pose and super details! As you have anyway cleaned up the water I would also take out the small white spot 1/4 up from the bottom and 1/5 in from the left. Have you considered a version cropped to just before the reflection of the body. Just tried it out and thought it would be an option.
Great capture Daniel! Really like the pose you got on this one. I guess I get spoiled a bit because I see these on your facebook page first, but still stunning nonetheless.
After your blog post on Artie's blog I was wondering if you wouldn't mind showing what your original histogram looks like. I'm curious to see how much to the right you shoot and then how much you bring back later. If that's possible, it would be a great learning tool for me (and possibly others)
The quality of your shorebird pictures makes me go crazy with badness! Why? Because I never see shorebirds! But that, of course, is my own fault and problem. Very well done. This one is mesmerizing, I'm finding. It's the water color that really knocks me out. Ah, the many wondrous tricks of photography and foliage and trees and water...one could be absorbed for a lifetime...
A very different Yellowlegs pose, and a wonderful fall BG. I'm not sure whether the reflected body adds to or diminishes the image, but if you cropped it out, the reflected legs might seem like orphans. Great image either way.
