excellent pose and nice details Arno. I like the dynamic pose, just wish the wings were fully up or down.

A fun pose and I agree with Arash about the wings, but the bird is sharp, well exposed and your usual attractive BG.

Hi Arno, well timed for the take off, and I do like how the sandgrouse pops from the complimentary BG. Nice and sharp where it counts.
How are you enjoying the 1DX?

Killer, killer, killer on all counts. Wing blur, BKGR, incredible sharpness, image design and self-critique are all perfect.

ps: this is a truly incredible image. I keep going back to look at it again and again. The droplets by the feet add interest. Was this bird taking off?

Thanks Stuart.
Still learning everyday ,but enjoying the DX . The sandgrouse explode on take-off so fast that I believe the 12 fps enhances the success of getting take-off birds . Will post some more shots shortly .

Thank you , Artie .
Yes ,this bird was taking off , leaving trailing water droplets.
These sandgrouse fly up to a distance of 80 km to drink water at water pans , mid morning. After a quick drink they take off lightning fast in explosive fashion.
The trick is to try and best anticipate the take - off and hit the shutter button a fraction beforehand. If lucky one achieves only one frame containing a full bird, even with the 12fps 1DX.

Thank you Karl. They are indeed water droplets ,after the bird had taken off after drinking at a water pan.

Oh very nice timing! I like the wings just the way they are. The detail is superb, as is the color. I usually like a complimentary color in the background, but in this case I think you nailed it!

I love this shot. The wing position is not a problem at all; in fact, I love it, and the blur. I note the graceful curves on the sandgrouse. I appreciate the eye contact. I value the water droplets, as they give the image context.
