As luck would have it, this Least Tern and its two siblings had hatched next to the ropes only hours before. With a slow belly crawl, I was able to get close enough for a good photo opp without disturbing the little fuzz ball. Removed about 4 darker spots in the sand which I found distracting. It was very sad this season when all of the Least Tern colonies were destroyed by Tropical Storm Debbie.

Still with the egg tooth, so sweet. Nice use of dof to help convey the softness of these little ones. My colony got wiped out too by a wind-driven, full moon, high tide. Sad.

Such a wonderful capture, Marina. The sweetness of this little chick is emphasized by your shallow depth of field. I love the little slope of sand it's found to rest its head on. So neat to be able to see the egg tooth, as Grace points out. Great comp. Overall a tender and engrossing image.

Hi Marina, you must have been close having to use your 24-105. Good DOF to show off the head and beak, and I like how the rest of the chick blends into the surroundings.

Wow!!! Lovely image. Excellent low angle and just love the calm mood of this shot.
    Very well done.

Very cute, tender, vulnerable. I know the young puff-balls look soft even when properly sharpened, but I feel the eye and area immediately adjacent to it could be sharpened a tad more. All else looks great...quite an opportunity, but sad when we stop and think these little ones were wiped out.
