Hi Roger, I probably have more opportunities than you to capture LBR's, and yet, I dont have one in flight . When in flight, one gets to see all of their colours, and this inflight shows that off nicely. Great wingspread, eye contact, and the colours pop well against the sky.

    Roger:

Very nice indeed. Great pose, nice angle in frame, colors. Really like the subtle violets showing in the raised wing.

    Looking forward to more.

    Cheers

Nice comp on this flight shot and you have quite a lot of details under the wings considering the not so subtle light. Great pose and colors. Looking forward to more.

Wonderful full wing spread, and great position of the bird in the frame. Fabulous colors. Very well captured.

I love the wing sweep and the tack sharp eye. Excellent comp with the diagonal line of wings.
I wonder if fill flash would have helped to open up the dark areas of underwing?
A lovely flight shot and one that I would love to have in my portfolio,

Very nice indeed Roger, great pose and colours and focus spot on. Excuse my ignorance but I am not too sure about the meaning of cropped to 7 megapixels, I presume (perhaps wrongly)you cropped the image to a certain size and it ended up to 7 megapixels, having said that how does that compare to the original? I can relate to say a crop of x% but not sure what is meant using numerical value as opposed to % values - I am anxious to learn and differentiate.

    Thanks all,

    Jon,
The 1DIV is 16 megapixels so I threw away a little more than half. We have had discussions on BPN about what does it mean when someone says 20% crop. Is that 20 percent of the original image, or 20% deleted leaving 80%? When one crops to a given megapixels, there is no doubt about how much the remaining image is. So in the case of a 1D4, 7/16 of 16 megapixels. So 7/16ths: is that a 44% crop, or a 56% crop?.

It would have been better to add a 1.4x TC but these birds are just too fast for me, so I needed a little extra space to be able to keep them in the frame.

Stuart, I have photographed these birds on multiple trips to Tanzania, and while I had some flight images on previous trips, never in really nice light. This image was made in nice afternoon light.

Gail, The underwing shadow was filled in pretty well by nice warm light reflected off of golden grass. Not sure I would have liked fill flash (bluer light, additional catch light spots). But in any case, I elected not to bring my flash on this trip to save weight.

Pretty darn nice Roger. I love the gray sky seving as a neutral BG to the wondeful colours of the subject. Very pleasing throughout...
