Thanks for the previous comments & feedback.

Shot from the river bank on a rather 'typical' day in Katmai, so not an ideal shooting angle as there was a good 5ft drop straight into the river, plus allowing about 6-8 ft distance between the edge of the bank & us giving the bear space to come up if he/she felt inclined. After several failed attempts this bear finally nailed a small snack.

Steve - the tones definitely give the feel of an overcast, cooler day in Katmai. I like the slight look back pose of the bear and the H/A of the salmon. Good detail and sharpness as usual and the rushing water adds to the image.

The look back pose on the bear and the pose on the fish are very good. IT's nice to see the bear in its environment. The bear's splash adds quite a bit of interest.

For some reason I am barely able to read any of your text.

I like the fur detail, the look back, & the wet areas on the bear. No seagulls!

Also good eye contact with both the fish & the griz.

    Hi Steve,
like the look back pose, do not steal my fish otherwise i kick your butt.
Flowing water adds interest to the image. You said above no ideal shooting angle , ok i do not mind.

I am not sure about the shadow areas, they look a bit choked.Likewise the colors, i have not been there, the reds are for my eyes a bit dominant. But you must know and remember them.
And compared to other posts , i am missing some sharpness. A Tad more. Just my thoughts .

    Hi Steve,

Hi Andreas, thanks for the RP.

To be honest I'm quite happy with the OP as the shadows are quite dark, but perhaps a compromise between the two in those key areas, as the RP overall is just a little too light and does not convey the conditions. Wet fur as you know can be tricky at the best of times, especially when sharpened as it can look over worked, but again, a hint more would not be difficult, as it's applied on a slider and this was set around 80%.

Re the reds, either Selective colour or sometimes Saturation (red channel)

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,
no problem , your image and you have been there.

Re the reds. I had no idea which way to push them or reduce them. I meant not the way how to do it ? I think i am am not happy with the hue of those reds , tried but did not get a solution for my thoughts.

    Cheers Andreas

I like it a lot. Great look back and love the catch in the mouth. The shooting angle works quite well her. I like the colors in Andreas's image!

Nice wet teddy here, Steve, with a nemo in it's mouth
I appreciate the comments about wet fur and gloomy conditions, yet the OP felt a tad dark and "choked up" to me, so I agree with you it might be between your OP and Andreas' RP which is a tad too light for me.

Andreas did a nice job on the respost and I tend to agree that the original was a little" choked up" in the shadows. This is a sweet image. Love that look back and even the salmon struck a nice pose for you.

I have to get out to photograph coastal grizzlys next year.

Morkel, tell the wife that although you have a fine family and children you don't feel your life is complete yet without a trip to North America to photograph grizzly bears ;)))))). Shopping's great up here ;) LOL

    Hi Steve,
Weather conditions well portrayed here and a very cooperative pair as far as providing you with a nice facial view. I have the urge to bump up the colors a bit but I'm thinking that would get away from the conditions you've tried to show.
