Sharp with a good exposure. It's the stuff around the head and especially around the bill that are the big problem here as the head and bill are lost in the clutter..... Wicked bird. What do they call the wiry things on the bill?

Excellent image in habitat. Not seen/heard about this good looking bird.I like the details, colors and scratching pose.
If mine, would crop up to perch (even with slight perch) from bottom.and clean the sky.
Yes indeed I will be removing that clutter later :-)
These birds are members of the Cotingas which is a big group , some of which are seriously threatened by habitiat loss, but I never found out their local name, except
for "calandra". However translate that to English and one gets radiator grille? lol.
The wattles from which the bird is named extend during singing and interaction -all a bit of a mystery; females do not have them.
I have seen them on a few occasions, say 3 times in 3 years; not easy to spot or capture. YThere are a few superb videos of them in action, one very good one on Arkive - you will be enthralled
Wow, it took me a while to figure out what was hanging from the bill...I first thought they were lizard legs (lunch)! Cool that it is rather actually a fieldmark, I should have paid closer attention to the name. Steep angle and clutter around the head are a bit of a negative here, but well exposed and sharp. Neat scratching pose too. I've never seen or heard of this bird before, thanks for sharing!

I was sure this bird had some kind of lizard hanging out of its mouth. This is one amazing looking bird, and you did a great job capturing it so that the viewers can see its "appendages." The BG is a bit bothersome but this capture still allows for a good look at a bird most of us will never see. Good for you for finding and capturing it. You must have been thrilled.
