Default Grey Heron in sweet light

I remember when I took this shot, I thought I had messed it up, as I was looking in the opposite direction and just happened to have turned around. Will you give me the credit of a grab shot. This was the same morning that I had taken Tony up to the Pilanesberg National Park at the end of June. The BG is the distant far bank of the dam.

Beautiful pose of this Grey Heron. I would try to sharpen it a bit more. The dark spot in the background on the right is a little distracting. Good composition.

Thanks Arash. If you are looking at the back of the eye, there does seem to be evidence of something there, which I didnt pick up. From my side, the eye was untouched.

    Hi Stuart,
    This is lovely.
I love the light and the wing position. Excellent IQ and love the BG oranges.
You should do grab shots more often!!

Stuart, I like this one a lot -- the background is excellent and the wing position as wll (and you call it a grab shot....).

Great shooting angle, flight pose, light and background, Stuart. It is amazing what a nice background and light can add to an image.

Experienced photographers can get successful shots even when they're not expecting one--as is the case here. Every feather shows detail. The BG is sweet. I note your speed of 1/1600, fast enough to capture this slow-flying species.
