Default Black skimmer over the water

I took this image in late July at Nickerson Beach. I like the pose, the early morning light on the wings and in the reflection, and the water dropping. I chose to leave the skimmer centered as I wanted to include the water trail.

This is a beautiful moment with great drama and color!

I'm always in a quandary with images where there is a trail or some very nice feature behind a moving subject. You don't want to crowd the direction in which it is moving, but here I think I would choose to crop a little more off the left edge, just to slightly uncenter the subject. Not enough to crowd its movement, but in this case there isn't anything "happening" ahead of the bird.

What would others think about cropping about halfway to the wingtip and reflection?

    Allan:

Nice light, shooting angle, birds angle in frame. I appreciate Diane's point on the cropping, but wouldn't take more than a sliver off the left. Because of the wave action the water trail isn't as dominant as it is on a calm day, so it has less visual impact/value, so would crop based on how the bird itself looks best ( personal taste here.)

The IQ as posted looks soft on my monitor. I would consider 1/1000s to be a bit slow for most flying shots, unless you are a wonderful panner. ( I can't do it consistently )

    How big of crop?

    Cheers

looks like this image was compressed or it was totally out of focus...something went wrong here.

Yep, somethings up on the resizing/compression. Like Daniel pointed out, even the watermark looks blurry.

So true. I had to save at lower quality to get it under 250 but aside from that I don't know.

Alan did you resize first? Or did you just take the large file and bring the quality down all the way?

I always resize first. Then I add my name and save a jpg.
