Taken about a month ago during a short family trip to the Adirondacks. Captured this from our canoe one morning. We visited with this family a couple times, and watched both parents feeding fish to the youngster. It was the highlight of the trip for my husband, child and I. Oh and our dog too .
Seems many loon portraits really beg for a pano treatment. Please let me know what you think of the crop.
Thanks a lot for looking and for all C & C.
Always fun to see the loon families, esp. now that the season is done here in Michigan (at least for me) Our adults will leave next month, and juvis will follow later.
Good shooting angle from canoe, nice angle in frame, like the peeking out pose of the juvi. I obviously am a fan of pano crops for loons, so I think it works here.
The juvi has the nicitating membrane half closed, giving a somewhat odd look to its eye. Might consider cleaning that up.
Thanks Jim and Randy. Yes, Randy, I noticed the nictitating membrane but chose to leave as is. I can see the argument for fixing it--and I am not opposed to that--but for some reason wanted to leave this one the way I captured it. Appreciate your comments.
Nice low angle, and water color. Nice job with the exposure, as the light looks a little harsh. Crop looks good, the body shape of loons usually makes a conventional crop difficult to manage.
Nice low angle, excellent colours and soft light, Melissa.
It is so difficult to bring out the colours of the head and neck of this bird.
You did an amazing job.
I can relate to your feelings, Loon sighting and photography being the highlight of your trip.
Hi Melissa,
I am late to the party but wanted to let you know that you nailed this one!Your comp is perfect as is the exposure.
Love the peek-a-boo from the juvi.
well done,
