That's pretty wonderful, Jim. What is your exact set up there, just the placement of a feeder near the flower (or vice versa)? Whatever it was, it worked out great. Love the comp, the pose, and that background which complements the colors on the hummer so well.
The more I look at this image, the more I love it. The percher on the flower is unique, but then closer inspection reveals the tiny feet grabbing on, the yellow of the flower reflecting on the bird and the tiny webs. A couple small suggestions...I believe that you may have more detail available in the whites of the neck and would try to coax that out, and there is some odd stuff (technical term!) going on with your background if you look really closely.
Thanks for sharing this Jim....a real treat to see.
This one is spectacular Jim. A perfect portrait all around. Great alignment and size relationship between the bird and flower. The slightly splotchy look of the BG is from jpeg compression.
Well done!
Very nice hummingbird, I've only seen it once while at a CBC.
Very nice details, light and funny to see this one perching on a flower. Perfect HA.
I think is a great shot. It's the first one I've seen of a hummingbird actually sitting on a flower. I like the bright colour of the flower as well.
Excellent shot. I really like the perch, great pose, excellent details, and wonderful background.
Well done.
Gorgeous image.Absolutely perfect lights, perch, pose of bird and BG. Love it.
Regards,
Satish.
Gret setup resulted a beutiful image, Jim. Great work.
This is really sweet, Jim. I love the comp, and the perch, and the ha. I'm looking on my laptop, so the slight magenta cast I'm seeing in the whites is probably not really there since no one else has mentioned it. Very nicely done.
Jim:
Really different with the hummer perched. Nice background. I don't believe I have ever gotten a hummer shot at 1/320s!
Well done indeed!
Randy
Very sweet pose & composition. Love the flower and the color harmony that nature provides here. And echo what Randy said a hummer at 320th with a 500 + 1.4 thats pretty darn steady shooting

This is the first time I see a photo of a hummingbird sitting comfortably on a flower...super!! Great techs and technique. I'm thinking you may have inspired a few to try this type of setup!
Hi Jim, a well thought out set up here, and you were rewarded nicely with this fellow perching just where you wanted him. Good angled pose from the HB, and love the iridescence on the wings. Both HB and flower pop nicely from your darker BG.
Beautiful Jim - truly love this one. Great job on the setup!
this is great Jim.
I like everything about this- the comp, the litlle feet on the flower, the BG.
You are giving me some great ideas,
gail
You made the most of this visitor! I too like the flower perch, very different. Sharp details as well. Nice work.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and suggestions.
superb, love the composition on this one
I like this one - I've not seen HB perched on a flower like this, but its a great comp.
I agree with Grace - there is more detail in the whites to be had.
Great pose and setting you have here.
Beautiful. Sharp and well exposed against a killer bg. I like the perch.
