    Default Launch of the Spoonbill

Our African Spoonbill's aren't as colourful as the Roseate version of the North Americas...but they still provide for some great images.

Taken at our local duck pond and rookery.

    Techs:
    Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f7.1 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-320
    Cropped from horizontal

I know some will say remove the willow leaves LHS...I don't like to clone in my 'naturel history' images...so the only option is to re-rotate and crop it out? Or does it work for you?

    Hi Morkel,

Interesting attitude on the spoonie - looks even more strange than usual with those gangly long legs catching in the trees and that ridiculous bill! Nature never ceases to amaze me.
Still, a cool action shot. I quite like the way the willow on the left holds the frame, so my vote would be to keep it there.

    Best wishes,

    Gerald

Very nice Morkel but I vote to get rid of the willow. Too OOF and doesn't add much for me.
The bird and perch are very nice.

Hey Morkel they can be found in Central and South America also!
I would love to see your species some day. Love that blue eye and wing position. Details on whites are terrific!

Wonderful shot. I really like the pose, exposed very well, great details and great perch. The oof willow does not bother me, but think the image would look better without it.
    Well done.

Hi Mork, well timed for the take off, and good to see the raised wings. Good whites, overall sharp, with good DOF. Im fine with the foliage on the left, cant stop looking at the spoonie.

Amazing pose, and I love that there is a foot still gripping the perch. Nice colours, exposure, comp. Those leaves at right do distract IMO and the image would be stronger without them there. Since you do not like cloning out stuff may I suggest the Patch tool or Content Aware?

Daniel - it's not that I don't "like" it as in I am not proficient at it - it's that I prefer to leave my natural history imagery "as-is" and will only remove dust spots etc. Photo-competition-style, if you know what I mean ...personal workflow ethics, kapeesh?

I like the sharpness, exposure, take-off pose and setting. Well done Morkel.
