Four hours in the blustery, rain soaked northern england and I got 15mins shooting time with these guys but what characters!

Trying to get away from tight, in your face type portraits and include more colour, environment etc. Does this work?

Well Stuart you took good advantage of the time & location. Good composition and I love the low POV with the OOF foliage creeping into view, that's a nice touch. Colours look good, shame about the highlights on the side, you could marginally tone them down I think. I might also try a Luminosity mask on the subject just to add a little more depth to it, but as the file presented is not sRGB it difficult to say what else could be done in PP to add a little more to it, however on screen it looks good, but not ideal for critiquing. I like the mottled BKG, but would clone the dust bunny on the RHS edge, plus personally soften the darker streak on the LHS. Like the ear tuffs beginning to sprout and these little fellows getting more exposure.

If you can add any more to the techs ie hand held, ex comp etc, always good to have more.

Look forward to seeing more work from you.

    Hi Stuart,
it is squirrel time , here.
Nice setting in the frame, with an excellent soft BG, would not change that.
Would agree on toning down the extreme highlights. And maybe open up the shadows in the tail , to make more details visible.

Would like to comment on color, but no profile embedded , so difficult to say.

    Like to see more.

Thanks for the help Andreas/Steve. Autumn is fast approaching in the UK and our thoughts turn to the yellows and oranges, browns and golds of the season. At this time of year targets seem to be Reds, the deer ruts and seals!

Tried a frequency separation on the image to put some colour back into the highlights. Also softened up the oof branches on the left. Hopefully this will be sRGB.

    Kind regards.
    Stu.

p.s No details to really open up in the tail as at F4 the focus was on the Squirrels head and dof was wafer thin.

Indeed it is Stuart, but we could do with some better light, as I had 5 minutes of decent light to nail an image tonight. Never mix people & animals!

The highlights are better, but I think you could push the colour of the squirrel a fraction more, but personal choice.

Stuart, just a point of note, it might be advisable not to include the location of the shot in the title of the image even if it's a Public site/location, but if it's something you have built up, it can be abused, just a thought.

Tough light direction but well handled...looking forward to more...

I find the environment most appealing in this capture, and the squirrel works well against it.
