Taken in the woods in Banff, Canada.
People obviously obey the rules and don't feed them as they are as shy as I have ever seen this species.
They were flitting around, landing and I was just snapping. I have no idea about the BG here, some light shaft
in the woods, as it was pretty dark.

Lovely capture Dan, nice feather detail and background. Don't know how you feel about this idea but I would be tempted to expunge the twigs in the ULC. I like the warm light but the red channel is clipped in the brightest areas of the neck. 1/3 stop less light would have saved those pixels. Love the pose and eye contact, very nice.

I like the HA, the perch is great & I like the BG. I also find these guys elusive & challenging to image. ISO 2000 & with good IQ–neat.

Really pretty bird in a pretty pose.
I like the yellow in the BG as well.
The whites are a bit hot on the throat but not an image killer!
Another vote for getting rid of twigs in ULC!

    Hey Dank,

I like this one. This makes it unanimous :). Love the BKGR. The repost addresses my too loose concerns as well as the offending twig.

Thank you very much, Arthur, I like it. I thought about the tighter crop, but sometimes I think I overdue it because
of all the D800 pixels, you can.
Yours is about 25% of original.

YAW. Image quality still looks great and this is a re-saved JPEG.....

    Hi Dan,

Great shot, you are right they are elusive here - maybe because there is so much wildlife here that no one bothers feeding these guys.

Mighty looking bird. I really like Arthur's repost. I would try to darken the perch and highlights on chest of bird.

The background of the image is to die for! A virtual rainbow of colors...really, really, nice.
The pose of the jay coupled with the perch orientation made for a great vertical composition.
Either version of the image works for me.

Hi Dan, love the leaning out pose, and how the tail follows the line of the perch. The splash of yellow in the BG adds a lot, and Artie's repost does work better.

Beautiful bird, awesome BG and perch. Repost addresses the same concerns I had for the twigs in ULC. I agree some highlights are pushing hot and could be tamed. I also would smooth out the edges of the faint OOF BG twigs touching the subject. Highly appealing image...
