    Default Ever Vigilant

I braved the wild fire smoke filled skies that are plaguing the northern Rockies for a visit to YNP in hopes of photographing bull elk that have just started the rut. Although I never found the elk, I did find this antelope buck & his harem of 4 does. Occasionally he would chase the does & send them scattering across the landscape. He was ever vigilant in defending his girls from other bucks. At one point, he suddenly spun 180˚ on his back legs & sprinted after another buck that suddenly appeared about 100 yards away. He was gone long enough that I think he chased the interloper out of the park. Mean while, back at the harem, the does nonchalantly continued their grazing & eventually lay down to chew their cuds.

Nice shot, love the subject and sagebrush/pine surroundings. Also like the touch of warmth the BG sunspots provide. IMO, one of the best you've posted.

I'm loving the soft light and pleasing tones/hues here Andrew...
Diagonals also add a lot to the image compositionally!
Might open up shadows on the face just a smidge?

    Great settings, comp and view.
A terrific look at the Pronghorn in a different setting.
I think the BG could use a round of NR.

Andrew - Nicely composed and I like the tones and the sagebrush habitat. Good pose too. I agree that a round of NR on the bg will enhance the image. Very well done.

Hi Andrew, each time you post, each time you show your progression, both in terms of composition & PP.

IMO, one of the best you've posted.
I would second that Steve C

Great colours/setting, nice angle for the subject, however I will take Morkel's comment re shadows because I'm away, plus Dan's NR. My only thought would be to crop a 3x2 ratio so there is less on the RHS working the crop from the top LH corner of the image.

    Congrats.

    Hi Andrew,
nice soft colors, comp with the diagonal line works quite well, well processed the tones, maybe opening up the shadows on the face will improve the image.
Maybe toning down the bright parts in the URC,bit bright for my taste.

Would agree ,this your best so far.

This is a hefty looking PH. I really like the DOF you chose.

Love the diagonal lines, soft light and colors. I also love how the tree on the left and the tree on the right frame the ph. I would be tempted to crop a bit tighter
