    Default Topsy Turvy Leopard

Another one of the 8 month old male cub taken in the Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa. When I posted the other image of him hanging upside down with his impala dinner some suggested a crop to vertical. It wouldn't work with that image but I was able to crop another image from the sequence to vertical and this one has the added element of his tongue out.

HH from a safari vehicle, cropped to portrait from landscape, luminosity mask, levels, s/h, curves, selective color adjustments, sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

this sure is an interesting perspective, Rachel!
I like the overall exposure...nice details throughout in trying light conditions

I think the framing works well with the leopard's tail juxtaposed with the antelope's feet.

    Hi Rachel,
like this unusual photograph of a leopard.
Well handled light situation and nicely processed, better than the last one, for my eyes.
    Good detail were it counts.

Wonder if Tom will ask you to flip the image.

Hi Rachel, I think this is just excellent!

Why, because we have seen many hundreds of images of a Leopard, however, the angle, unique pose, plus the added bonus of the kill in the canopy makes, IMHO an exceptional image. I will leave it for others to make and suggestions to colour.

VWD Rachel, one of your best.

Rachel, this is a great image. It made me smile. I love the playfulness it conveys & that tongue is marvelous.TFS.

Certainly a different POV. Seems to have just a touch of yellow cast but it doesn't look unnatural. Nice job on the PP. For such a contrasty scene it is surprisingly easy on the eyes to view.

A wild view Rachel, I like it a lot.
Colors look fine, the kill adds a lot also.

For me this is a contest image. There are so many elements. There's humor and gore and the pose and comp are terrific.

This is hysterical, love love love the composition. You see so many the same, and they are great, but this is so different and unusual yet still well done. Really enjoy this image and find it so amazing that with the gore of the poor Imapal hanging over the tree the image still brings a hugh smile to my face

This is obviously a wonderful image for the many reasons noted above. Is the repost better?

Thanks Gen and Artie. Artie - I'm at work and not on my calibrated monitor so I will reserve comment for now on whether it is better. I notice that the face is a little brighter/richer and the leaves are darker. Curious as to what you did in your repost?

    Thanks,
    Rachel

YAW. This is obviously a wonderful image for all the reasons noted above. When I first looked at it I was lost for a minute trying to figure out what was where.... For the repost I lightened the face and ran a 60% layer of NIK Color Efex Pro's Tonal Contrast. Then Detail Extractor on the carcass. And then burned (darkened) the corners in an effort to bring the viewer right to the leopard's face....

Hey Rache, YAW. It sounds as if you get my drift :) There are lots of ways to skin both the proverbial and the actual cat to get pretty much to the same place :) Let me know what you think when you get home.

YAW Steve. I generally shy away from updates at least for a while. I said yes to update my Droid Razr cell phone and the new improved version pretty much ruined a great phone. And get this--when I complained to Verizon who sold me the phone they said, "Blame Google--we have zero control of the software." Man, you gotta love that!

True Artie, sometimes it's best to wait, however some companies don't expand on what the upgrades do so it can be pot luck, but you would expect an Upgrade to be, an Upgrade!

That's shocking, has anyone told Google they are now running Verizon too? What happened to testing, cutting corners is not ideal and looses Customers.

Question, in lightening the face do you think it looks 'right', as the subject is backlit, I would therefore expect it to be more 'in shadow'? Perhaps somewhere between the two, WDYT?

Artie, I think Steve makes a good point here. In comparison to the rest of the leopard's body, the face & chest appear too light to me with your changes & repost. WDYT?

I overdid it perhaps a bit to make sure that folks would notice. I still think that it is a good idea to be put in place by Rache :). So yes, somewhere in the middle would be great. On the other hand when I look at the repost my eye is drawn instantly to the face and the tongue.....

Artie - now on my calibrated monitor. I think you, Steve and Andrew are correct and maybe somewhere between the 2 is best but I do like what you did to the corners/leaves.

    Thanks again,
