I clip the back of this bird, I was moving forward when the bird open his mouth, I try to set as soon as possible, but not able to compose properly and not as sharp as I wanted.
So I cropped the Image and follow the "cut" instead of "clip" ABPII recommendations, not sure if this was the best way to "cut" the bird... Comments and recommendations are welcome.

Raul, this image is outstanding. The only thing needing improving is the composition. The background, light, pose, and detail are all exceptional. You were headed in the right direction with "cut don't clip", but I'd like to see this image tighter or looser. Loose enough to include his feet, or tight enough to get rid of his legs.

I like the pose on this bird. Here's another crop suggestion for you. I also adjusted the bird a bit to lighten the shadows some.

I like the crop suggested by Leroy a lot !! Complements the long beak !!! Not sure about the lightening part seems a bit washed Would use selective color and increase the neutral and black a couple of points !!!

Love the sharpness and fine detail Raul Excellent timing for the head turn and open mouth Sure was a fun bird !!!!

Leroy beat me to the crop here. Agree that the lightening part makes the colors a bit washed out. Like the original crop too - Blake's feels imbalanced to me. Here is my take - increased contrast a little and sharpened just a tad more with a high pass filter.

Wonderful image Raul. And sharp. The only time he yawned was when I was trying to do his eyeball...

With all due repect to the other (share-) croppers above, this is the only crop that works for me. The duckweed on the front leg is too precious to crop out.

Thanks for the recommendations, my original intention was to keep the white belly feathers, which in my opinion have good details. I like Arthur suggestion, maybe because is closer to my original post, which is cut the small part of the tail I left and cut some of the dead space on the right hand side of the frame.
I also went back and have another copy with Leroy recommendations which I also like.

    Thanks

Great thread!!!! and fantastic portrait Raul. Terrific BG, light and details and the yawning is great. This image is so good that I think it doesn´t matter if you crop or do not crop:)

This portrait is awesome. I would cut it just like Blake did, as the legs, or better lack of legs, somehow does not agree with me personally. But the trim just above them and the showing of those beautiful belly feathers is a killer! Take my hat off!

The colors are fantastic with very sharp details on your bird, pleasing background and good eye contact...:D
