    Never seen a shot quite like this before! Looks like the light was a bit harsh, but otherwise great capture.

    Tough to track these birds. Great flight pose that does give the speed vibe for sure.
    Did you use audio? Was this near a nest site?

    Jim:
    I really like pileated's an have a number living in the woods behind my home. In that setting, the only time I see them is scooting from tree to tree, and can never seem to get a clear shot at them. I really appreciate your clean shot here, love the rocket like pose, tucked feet, and the crop which strengthens the sense of climbing.

    Yes, strong shadows, but it still is a very effective picture for me
