Default Lapland Longspur on lichen covered rock.

This image was made during a past fall migratory period in Northern Minnesota. The background is Lake Superior.
The bird was photographed near the end of a breakwater. The longspurs will forage on small insects and spiders
that can be found on the rocks of the breakwater. SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/320, a smidge of
fill flash, cropped, resized, selectively toned down the saturation on the lichen, USM. Comments and critiques
    always welcome.
    Regards,
    Shawn Zierman.

    Shawn:

Excellent flash use,, nice pose, head angle. That must have been some bright lichen based on how the 'toned down' version looks!

I like the overall color palette and I think it works very well. Some would suggest cleaning up the debris on the bill.

    Cheers

Great use of fill flash. Excellent IQ, detail, sharpness. I am fine with the food on the bill as it adds interest and depicts what the longspur is doing.
I like your comp though I could see another version with some trimmed off left and bottom.

This brings back great memories of a very cooperative longspur that stayed for a while at a location close to my home...he cooperated well enough for me to take full-frame head-and-shoulder portraits with extention tubes!! Love the perch here, and the greyish BG looks good here. Nice alert pose, techs, sharpeness. I'm torn on the piece stuck to the bill as it does not look like food to me, but I can accept it there.

very coo perch and I like the pose too. I don't usually like a cleaned up bill but this one looks like a piece of straw or grass. It is a little distracting for me but don't think it ruins the image as is.

Sweet on all counts with a perfect pose and head angle. If you could have gotten a foot or two lower you could have separated the belly from the rock. Nice perch BTW. Light soft and EXP spot on.

Hi Shawn, comp and placement work fine for me, and you have captured a good casual pose. I would also leave the food bit, and the orange lichen stands out nicely.

Great capture. Really like the perch in this one. The yellows/oranges are great. I would like the catch light to be a bit brighter, but otherwise i love it.
