    Hi Rachel,
    high cuteness factor here.
Well exposed and nicely processed.Think you could go a bit tighter on RHS and bottom.
Some more local contrast could be addressed to the sand and lets say maybe to the mid tones as well , to give it a bit more pop.Just a thought from me .

The puppie is just really nice, and that makes this image for me.

Hi Rachel, nice to see these youngsters and that Mom was so relaxed with you being there.

Personally I think it looks well balanced with the whites to blacks, you have subtle detail in the 'white' fur around the neck of Mon, yet the darker detail in the pups face isn't choked. I like the comp with the pup standing on a slight incline and the den clearly visible in the BKG, however is not dominating either, but agree, you could lose some off the RHS. Certainly adding more depth to the FG sand would be good, as it would bring out the nice detail and depressions in the sand giving the area more form, I tried it and it seemed to work.

    Hi Rachel,

this is cute, must be a "mom factor"

Agree with Steve. I'd try to darken the FG sand some, it is a bit bright, and some detail/form in it would help that.

ps - happy you got to see the pups. When I was there in May 2012 they were not coming out of their den yet.

Thanks all for the kind comments and suggestions. I'll take a look at the fg.

Tom - this was one of the cubs that was only 8 weeks old so it had not yet been born when you were there. There were some older cubs that were about 3 months old. Btw hyena young are cubs not pups.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel, although this was taken from the OP and I did not crop, however I think it could go darker , but working on the MacBook Pro, so...

Very cute Rachel. Your RP has taken it up a notch, and I like Steve's RP a lot too...good detail in the tonal range here as mentioned. I bet you took maaaany images of these cuties?
Comp is just right and I like that the little one's head is "in the hole" so to speak...
