Well, I know this time of year the young burrowing owls begin to emerge from their burrows and have been anxious as my rig has been in the shop for the past month (right at the wrong time). So, I took my 10D out of mothballs and went to Brian Picollo Park. Saw one chick with the last vestiges of fuzz but the beauty wouldn't emerge from burrow. This one is close to fully fledged. Created in the late evening sun.

    Gorgeous image David !!!

You sure did clean up the noise for the high ISO and kept the image sharp !!! The soft diffused light sure help out I like the selected aperture for ample dof Would suggest more room Feels a bit tight particularly at the bottom !!! Glad you decided getting you camera out of mothballs !!!!

Love the soft light and the raised foot. Would like to see a bit more room all around.

    Al,
You may not believe it but I didn't do any noise reduction on this image. It looks pretty clean at full resolution and only begins to look very faintly splotchy when compressed, so I left it as is.
    Artie,
I only have a little room on the left and top as I had to get this close to avoid the rope from where they mark the nests. I was right at the MFD (reason for closing aperture down). The sun was right at the horizn with no clouds(thus golden light). Only wish that rope wasn't in the way.
I learned everything I have about photography from the seat of my pants. I did however get your book and read it at the beginning (just a couple years ago). Didn't even know what an aperture, exposure or shutter speed was. It's amazing how the more experience I get, and then return to your book and CD, the smarter you become!!!!!!
As always, thanks for the learnings!!!!!

Adding some canvas and green at the top would be a snap. And thanks for your kind words :)
