    Default Drake Wood Duck Portrait

    Attached Images Attached Images

This Drake Wood Duck image was taken last fall at North Chagrin Reservation. Ironically, I came across this unedited photo while looking through my files from last year. This was originally a horizontal shot that didn't turn out too well so I played around with it some (different crops) and settled with this one. I used a bit of fill flash as this guy was lurked in some light shadows. The water color is the surrounding fall foliage reflecting in the pond. Thanks for looking and C & C is always welcome.

    Canon 7d, 1/200sec @ f/6.3, ISO 320, 500mm f/4L, fill flash used, taken at 10_58am.

    Josh:

Glad you found this jewel in the rough. Unusually good shooting angle at that location, flash really added some pop, good purple cheek patch, water color, and drops on back. Excellent feather detail.

    Cheers

Very nice portrait. Did a great job with the fill as I see that it has helped bring out some of the detail and colors!

What a stunner, Josh. Great job on all counts: your low angle, the comp, the details, the exposure. Excellent portrait! Wish I were headed back for more this fall, but have to miss out. I look forward to your images of them to come.

Hi Josh, lots of colours to look at in this, and they all work together. Good low angle, good detail throughout, and good choice of crop.

Just lovely, Josh. I like the crop. Great colors, use of flash, low angle. I guess I'll have to go to Chagrin sometime.

Sweet sweet shot. Love the details, including the water beads on different areas of the body.
Great use of fill flash too.

The fine detail on the head is quite stunning! Amazing colours, and you brought out the irridescence quite beautifully here. A lovely Wood Duck portrait...

Really nice portrait Josh. I like the dof on the whole bird, the great light and your low angle. I especially like the single water drop on the breast

Killer on all counts. Love the detail in the WHITEs, the purple cheek patch, the detail on the breast, and the sweet light. I'd opt to lose the white speck on the far side of the head just above the bill.

I liked the crop a lot. Well done. good use of flash. I am guessing we would not have seen the colors( esp. the purple cheek patch which can be elusive) otherwise. the calm colorful water adds a ton here. I like this incoming angle a lot as it shows off the full breast pattern and its reflection is a huge bonus.
