I saw Jim Neiger's recent image post from his time with Alan Murphy last fall, and decided to have another look at the files from my time with Alan (and Mike Gray). I found this adult Cooper's Hawk in a cool banking pose. The lighting was a bit of a challenge, but the image processed nicely. Taken from a blind, using both calls and a decoy owl.
Canon 1D Mark IV, 300mm, f/7.1, 1/3200, ISO 640, manual exposure, hand held from blind
Killer wicked pose but that off-angled light is pretty much unforgiving. Was to go on getting the adult.

Super dynamic flight pose, pretty much making the impossible seem like it can be done imo.
What size speaker did you use to project a call up in the air for a migrating accipiter? I've seen
hawks and falcons dive bomb owl decoys many times up on Hawks Ridge in Minnesota without
any audio being used...natural instinct. What call did you play here, and in your opinion, did it
have a noticeable impact on frequency and or intensity of a raptor's response?
Hi Doug, I bet you were excited when you saw this on your rear LCD - superb dynamic inflight pose. Love the concentrated stare, and Im sure this wasnt easy to bring off. Well captured.
