    Default American Avocet

Took this last spring at a spot I call reflection pond. This bird is in early stages of molting. I like the fact that the beak is highlighted by the wing. Comp is a bit boxy but with the wing position I think it works ok. What do you think?

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.

    Always appreciated

I really like the composition and the brownish area top left, it compliments the colours in the avocet. You have fine detail and excellent focus, a very pleasing shot. I did wonder if the image required a tad more pop but I like it as it is.

David, great shot with very nice detail throughout. The background compliments the landing bird nicely. It does look like the bg could use a bit of NR, though

Excellent pose!! Yes, the comp works for me as is. Perfect exposure, colours look good, and I too love the bill against the white wing. I could see a bit more NR to the BG, and oddly enough I like that there is a missing primary feather

Great pose with the bill against the wing, and nice detail. I agree with you about the comp - I'm not crazy about the boxy proportions but they work well in this case. Another vote for some NR.

Lovely pose and light with good IQ and sharpness. Crop seems to work well here

Ditto all the positives above. The shadow from the slightly off-angled light is slightly distracting. Can you please post the full frame original capture?

Hi David, great show of the full wing spread, well exposed, and I like the feather detail captured. These guys do have thin legs dont they.

Thanks again everyone for the nice comments.

Artie, Thanks also. I am not at my computer with my files on it. Didnt do much to this image but now that I look I could have lightened the shadow or dodge it. I am leaving in a few hours for a 2 week trip to Egypt. Bringing my gear and hope to see some Birds in between the sights.

    Thanks

    David

I was interested in commenting on the boxy crop. If you remember, post the original when you get back; I subscribe to post notifications so I will see it. Have a great trip.
