    Default First day with MIV

So I finally got out with my new MIV body and I am already happy with it. Unfortunately light wasn't cooperating but I do like the effect it created in todays images. I was time limited so I didnt get much . This was my favorite from this morning. I took Artie's advice on rear focus setting and agree it rocks especially using the star button instead. This one shot on my belly tripod mounted Bellair Beach FL. Now I just need that 500 lens.

Hi Cheryl: I'm a newcomer and a noob, so caveat emptor. First, congratulations on the MIV. About the picture. Yes, light's flat, but given that, I think it's a lovely image and like what you've done. I like the curving arc of the foam, the soft focus there, and the birds's pose (too bad the head wasn't turned a bit toward you). Have you given thought to increasing the contrast, or are you deliberately downplaying contrast to emphasize the high-key effect? Again, major noob here.

Very nice capture. I like the frothy water in the FG. Bird is segregated from BG nicely. Good job with the light you were working with. It may take a week or two to get used to your MK4 but once you do you will never look back. Congrats!

nice low angle and I like the waves, would have loved a small head turn towards you.

Congrats on the MK4, personally I would have gone for the 500 first. A great lens such as 500 is much more effective than a new body but the MK4 is an excellent choice too and I'm sure you will soon see its advantages and get better photos! looking forward to seeing them :)

Well done on the new box....I want one, really like the white froth and the raised leg.
What do you call this bird as it looks a lot like our Tattler.

Hi Gareth and welcome to what I believe to be the most helpful forum I have belonged to as i feel you get good honest critiques and advice here. Thank you for your comments. I have to agree about the head turn and would have liked it too. I worked the contrast to help the bird pop more as it was so flat yet the foamy water and bg helpted to make it work for me.

Thanks everyone, Thanks Arash and yes I would have preferred the 500 but this body came at a great deal that I could work out for now and I did want one as well.. I WILL get that 500 sooner or later hopefully sooner :)

Congrats on the new camera, Cheryl!!! You have very nice details in your Willet and I am loving the foamy feel of the water. Do wish the bird were not slightly angled away from you.

I love this type of light...you can photograph all day and not worry about harsh light or light angle! You do have to worry about head angle though, and I wish you had it better here. Love the foamy water, smooth BG, techs, details, comp. Congrats on the new gear!

Lovely willet shot with your new camera. Congratulations my friend. You will absolutely love it. You're going to do great things with that MKIV.
Love the soft light here, the foamy water, the gentle mood. Wish for a minor head turn towards us.

Hi Cheryl, congrats on your new toy, and Im sure you will produce plenty keepers. I like the wading pose, soft light and pastel colours, and if anything, I would maybe take a bit off the top.
