Default Which Color space do you shoot in ? Why?

I have been Shooting in Adobe RGB for a long time. No informed decision behind it. A friend who ins very good at PP told me in my earlier days. before that I shot in sRGB. When I edit those pics now with newer techniques I am learning the colors on the final product when I post or upload on the web are all messed up. I know what causes is so I go back and fix it and repost.

Was just wondering if sRGB is the all accepted color space then why bother shooting in Adobe RGB? I know MANY shoot in Adobe RGB. WHay do they do when such a conflict arises if at all?

Finally, Important question- What settings do you use in camera and how do you set up you photoshop for this? Do I have to face the Color space management dialogue each time I open a conflicted image?

I hope my question was clear enough.

    Thanks

Reposting it here as any one hardly looked at this in ER, Tips and tricks.

If you're shooting RAW the color space set in the camera doesn't matter -- it's only for JPEG. The color space in a RAW converter is very large, as is the camera's RAW space (gamut) and a conversion to a color space only occurs when you go from a RAW converter to a pixel editor like Photoshop. If you're only doing web output, you might as well set your PS working space (Edit > Color Settings) to sRGB -- the lowest gamut (least representation of saturated colors) but best for the web. If you're into printing, AdobeRGB is a better color space, as it matches print output better. Working in ProPhoto requires some understanding of histograms because (to simplify) you can overdo saturation without realizing it, and images should be worked in 16 bits. The other color spaces in Photoshop are not used except for spacial purposes.

Hasty reply here, skimming the surface. I'm sure others will provide more information.

Set the PS Color Setting to warn you of a profile mismatch, to be on the safe side and give you more options -- too much explanation for here.

Thanks Diane. That helps understand a little. I have checked the mismatch alert and my PS working space is sRGB already,

But I shoot Adobe RGB. Just wanted to know how others have set it up. and how many of us do justice to Adobe RGB in camera?

I shoot in AdobeRGB and have LR set to saving ProPhoto. The color space I use in PS is mostly Adobe RGB and I convert to sRGB when I prepare an image for web. This keeps my originals in the widest color space while allowing me to prepare for print in Adobe RGB efficiently. If printers begin to approach ProPhoto I will change the PS space accordingly.

    Amol,
I image with raw+jpeg most of the time. I started out with the camera jpeg set to Adobe RGB, but sometimes I simply use the jpeg with no processing (quick and simple) so changed to sRGB. Photoshop is similarly set to sRGB. When I do convert a raw image, I work in Adobe RGB.

I use Adobe RGB in camera and in DPP and Photoshop CS6, images automatically become converted to sRGB when I Save for web.
I rarely if ever capture jpegs but I leave the camera on Adobe just in case I ever do.
