Default Splish Splash taking a bath - Juvi common loon

This juvi common loon was imaged last weekend in northern Michigan. He is as big as his parents, and has been practicing his moves. He was working on his penguin dance here. He wasn't displaying at me, just practicing.

Post: 15% crop for comp, selective sharpening, light touch of detail extractor on breast to tone down the whites, which were in the 240s, but many folks find that too bright for their tastes.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

    Very nice action here Randy.
Love the BG and sweet light. Bird seems to be very focused on water.

Lovely pose and action. BG looks lovely as well. More details in breast would be great. It must have been fun.

Really nice capture. I like the water in front of him and the nice soft background. I have a hard time finding loons in a spot with a green background.

Very nice action shot. I like the Loon pose, water splash, BG & low shooting angle. TFS

Great stuff Randy! Very clean image with nice details throughout. It is a bit bright on the breast (and I don't know much about this bird), but I feel that this is the way that it is supposed to be?

Looks like you were waiting for this moment to happen (1/3200"). Nice timing!

Randy, a different type of loon image from you and I like it. Glad to see the little guy made it through the summer. IQ as expected from you.

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

It can be a challenge to get significant detail in that white breast, esp. when shooting right on the sun angle and with a film of water over the feathers!
Their breasts are very white/bright to begin with.

    Cheers

Neat behaviour, and this guy gave you quite the splash!! Super BG. Although I like the comp as is this will crop nicely in a 4x5 ratio with some off the left.

love that splash and the pose. The whites are technically not overexposed but they are sitting near the edge, would be nice to see a bit more detail as posted in sRGB in those areas. great shot TFS
