    Default Northern Potoo.

Hello every one and thanks for looking at my work. I've been very busy with work and other things so that has keep me away from the forum.

Today I want to share this pic of a northern potoo, this is a special species due to their fantastic camouflage that makes them go undetected. This species is almost identical to the common potoo, but geographic location and vocalization can help to tell them apart.

In Costa Rica we call them ''pajaro estaca'' or stick bird since they roots on an exposed perch during the day. I found this one on the north western part of the country so is very likely to be a Nyctibius jamaicensis. This one here is not resting yet, that's why I found it with and open eye and desided to make a very close portrait of this guy.

Great portrait shot of a fantastic looking bird, Juan. I love the fine details and the rich brown colours in the bird.

Awesome bird and a great picture with the open eye and the nice detail. You got close for sure to have a FF portrait. I wonder if you got some full body images as well. If you do I hope you will share them with us as well. Congratulations, Juan Carlos.

    Juan Carlos:

Not a commonly seen bird, love the interesting upper eye lid, vivid eye, pleasant BG.

In a perfect world, would have liked a little more DOF to get more of the bird in focus. There is so much interesting detail in the wing, wish it was sharper.

Thanks for the natural history info too!

    Cheers

    Randy

What a cool bird! I love that eye! I can see how they would be hard to find with their eyes closed.

I can't add anything to what has been said, just love this bird. The eye shape puts if over the top. Wish it was mine.

Very nice portrait. At that close range, it might have been nice to stop down to f/10ish to get some more depth of field. Either way, the image is very nice!

Way cool! Love the eye and the tiny bill. Great job with the colours, and details looks great as posted. I'll sound picky here but I do wish you had moved a tiny bit to your left (if it was possible) to get a wee bit better head and body angle (which to me seems to be angled ever so slightly away from us). Fantastic stuff, I sure do hope you have more to share :-)
