    Canon 7D w/ Canon 400mm F5.6 L Lens

    S. Speed / Aperture------1/800 sec @ F5.6

    ISO Speed ------200

Notes: I was able to get so close to this grebe, to the point that I was only able to crop 5-10%.
It was just as curious with me as I was with it. Photo was shot from a fishing kayak in about 1.5 feet of water.

    Jason:

Good shooting angle from your yak. Sharp, well exposed, nice sense of the environment without it being overwhelming.

I might consider a slightly different crop, removing some from the bottom and right side, and adding in a bit on the left if you have it. When the reflection is relatively weak, I don't worry much about trying to preserve it, and crop for a more pleasing composition.

Despite the low ISO, I am seeing some noise in the darker areas of the water.

Look forward to more. Please feel free to comment on other folks images, it is a great way to train your eye, and to foster a sense of community!

    Cheers

Yes, well done from the kayak! Sharp, well exposed. I love these guys, missed them this year. I agree with Randy in regards to the crop, here is an alternative. I also think the plumage looks a little too yellow. In "Selective Color" I added Cyan and Magenta, and reduced Yellow...all in the Red channel. Hope you like!
