Found this one perching fairly close in Madikwe, South Africa whilst staking out the Brown Hyena den, fruitlessly as it turned out 11th January 2012

    EOS 1D MkIV

    500mm F4 hand-held

F5.6, ISO 800, 1/8000, EV + 0.33 ( my excuse is the set up was for the Hyena pups emerging into the shadows)

Very nice image, Ken. I like the slightly open bill and the soft blue BG.
    However, it's not a European but a Lilac-breasted Roller.

You are totally correct, I really have no idea as to how I did that

Never seen one before, and this image is a great one! Love the colors. I was confused at first with the perch by the foot ... looks like it was an extension of the leg.

Great shot of this roller. Very good IQ and great head angle.

Ken, what a beautiful bird. Nice comp. and subject angle. I think it can be a tad brighter.

Hi Ken, colours are spot on, great eye, and well timed to get the open beak. Nice that he is in the open.

    PS. Fixed your title.
