After a relatively unsuccessful day trying to photograph Tree Swallows, I went back to the terns I know best. This was taken at Bolsa Chica Wetlands on the main bridge. 400mm f/7.1, 1/1250, and iso:200.

Nice to see Terns acting like Terns! I sit and watch this type of activity for hours down at the river. This is a great pose and it seems pretty sharp, the whites are a somewhat hot from the tough light.

Definitely tern behavior......and obviously from the white wash.....a highly sought after perch. The whites do look a bit hot......but I like the action.

Do like the action Sure wish the other bird would have had the wing fully extended !!!! Very soft light is the key for these guys Would also like to see the eye clearly on the rear bird !!!! Good capture !!!

Brian you might take the original image and zoom in about 400 or 500 percent and then use a hand tool to outline the image. Then you can apply some lightening, sharpening, etc to just the selected area.

    Hi Brian,
Love the composition and capture on this one great blue backdrop and nice wing position, my only suggestion would be to crop just a tad off the perch...:D
