    Default Leopard Silhouette

Another one from my recent trip to the Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa. Admittedly the leopard was underexposed against the early morning sky so I decided to burn it more and to up the WB in ACR.

Hi Rachel, a very arresting image, love the soft red tones of the early morning sky, juxtapose to the 'crow black, ink black' of the subject and FG. A good call to experiment too in the RAW processing. I don't mind the central position as presented, although slightly more to the right with the subject might have given a better balance? I also like the very busy RHS, set again the almost empty LHS, with the graduated colour moving up through the image. Not sure if cropping say 0.5 inch off the RHS helps, just removing the RH bow, WDYT, might just give a cleaner edge? Applying some more USM could be tricky, so perhaps just to the main elements, tree bows, Leopard, but watch for halos if you do.

Just punched it up a tad more for the BKG, might work?

Love the soft colour tones in this image Rachel, very nice. Would consider (but not sure) cropping slightly from right and top just to redress a slight balance issue to my eye. Very atmospheric.

    Rachel,

Certainly a different image and an obvious answer to the exposure problem. Not to sure that it works for me as for some unknown reason the silhouette does not seem to pop from the BG.

I agree with Hilary on changing the crop to off centre the Leopard.

Hi Rachel, good adjustment choises in ACR to create this look. It turned out well. I agree with a crop from the right.

I really appreciate your thinking outside the box here. Have to agree on a crop from the right. That dangling branch above the head is bugging me. I wish it didn't bc I am not into cloning but I would probably consider removing part of it.

    Thanks Marina.

By popular demand here's a repost with a crop from the rhs and a slight crop from the top. Marina - the branch doesn't really bother me and I also think the crop has minimized its effect by placing it more on the busier rhs.

    Thanks again everyone,

    Rachel

Sorry for only commenting now, Rachel...I "lurked" on this one for a day or 2 (was just too busy to comment properly).
Love the mood, great thinking here, and the repost is the way to go for me.
Looking forward to more from your trip

I find the repost to be a stronger image.

Thanks Marina, does the branch still bother you?
