    Default Kingfisher in flight.

A self critique, this bird is a lifer for me, I can never get close or even get a perch shot.
It surprised me today, so my SS was not as fast as needed and the bird is soft, he also was
almost out of the frame. I still liked it, may never get another, they are so skittish where I live and
so fast in flight, so I was very happy with this one.

    Dan,

I'm not sure how much you cropped this but looks pretty good. I don't know why our kingfishers are so shy while other are easy to get close to.

Hi Dan, its always great to get any kingfisher in flight, and you have a good flight pose here. I would move him down in the frame.

You can pop over here anytime for some of my kingfishers.

Nice action captured on a notoriously difficult subject. I'd be happy to have achieved this.
I agree that the subject is too high in the frame. Also, the dark branch or whatever it is
coming up from the bottom of the frame (right hand side), is a bit visually disruptive.
How big of a crop? I'm guessing pretty hefty, and am thinking that the size of crop is a factor
regarding sharp details on the kingfisher.

Congratulations on a lifer. However, IQ suggests a massive crop (I assume less than 10% of the original.)

Very nice capture. Although the IQ isn't superb, I know how hard it is to see (much less shoot) a kingfisher at short range.

I can relate to your lack of perching shots Dan.
Everything turned around for me since I shot one from a blind.
Since then we are friends and they tolerate me more so.
I like your BIF shot of this species, Dan.

Very nice shot Dan. I would be very happy with a shot like this.
    Well done.
