    I know these guys are a dime-a-dozen around here, but I do love watching and photographing them.

    Ian, I'm a newbie so I don't feel qualified to offer any suggestions. I will say that's a very nice GBH. My key is the eyes - and you've nailed that.

    Here in Delaware, the egrets and herons are swarming now (maybe I'll post a video). I love to see them fighting over territory / fish.

    Nice shot Ian. My only problem is with the glare off of the water, it pulls my eye away from the bird some. Maybe some selective darkining of the glare would help, I don't know. I am not that experienced yet but I am sure some of the more experienced members can give you better ideas on how to help this otherwise excellent shot.

    Ian...Nice capture...love the pose and the uplifted foot, I agree that the water needs to be darkened and the brownish spot just over his back could be blended into the bg with a low opacity brush filled with the bg color.
