This was my first outing with my 1D4, almost a year ago, when I took Matthew Studebaker's wonderful Oct workshop in Ohio, focused on wood ducks. I have recently revisited the pics I took and am processing a selection for the first time. This forum has helped develop my eye so much that it was easy to go back and delete some I would never like now, and to recognize others that have some of the qualities I have learned to appreciate. I like this one for the full view of the body, the head angle, and that lovely water that reflected the fall colors.
Had to do some recovery on the whites on the throat.
Thanks for looking. All C & C greatly appreciated.

Yes, the head angle is perfect and the picture is great, Melissa.
I like the colours and fine feather detail.
    The exposere looks spot on.
The bird has an appeal that I have difficulty to tell as to why.
It just looks great or very pretty I would say.
The only thing I would have changed was the space on the top.
I would have taken off about 15 mm.

Lovely light, bird, and water. A bit more room below and a bit less on top would likely have improved this. Sharp with the right exposure.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I had the room below, as had cropped initially. Hope this is a more pleasing comp.

Yes, the image design in the repost is a big improvement. Here is the general rule that I reach: usually two to three times more room above the bird than below works well with horizontals.

Beautiful color, Melissa, the only thing that would improve this was if the light was just in front of the bird.
    The water is very nice.

Repost rocks. So many awesome wood duck images come out of that area....
And this is certainly one of them.

+1 on the repost :) The bird is great, but the background is killer!

Recognized this gal from the thumbnail Melissa! The light rocks on this one as does the water color. Hard to believe next month is Wood Duck time already. Hopefully will see you there!
