Gail, what a great dynamic image. I'm usually a fan of getting lower, but for this one I think getting a bit higher (to remove the top bg) might have helped. The details in the feathers are to die for. Great catchlight in the eye, too.

This is a striking image, Gail. The pose is amazing and the IQ is excellent.

The light quality and pose are super deluxe. Really one of the best shorebird poses I've seen in a while.
I agree with Miguel that background control could have been better with an elevated shooting angle.

Lovely pose, light and behaviour. Sharp with good detail. Shooting angle is a bit high and I wish the dark areas at the top weren't there.

What a killer pose, Gail. I really like it, and I love how that light has brought out the golden tones and really illuminates fine detail in the feathers. I too would have liked to see a lower angle--but at the same time, you might not have gotten such a good overall view of the top of the bird. As for the BG, I think it's worth trying to take out that uppermost layer, I don't think it would be too hard. Super shot.

Hi Gail, Im fine with this angle, as it shows off the 'aggressive ' pose nicely. Tack sharp, love the light and the shadow, and wish the band wasnt there at the top.
