I have sharpened this one a little more in raw and added a tad more saturation,
    all C&C welcome.

    Jonathan,

Firstly I would crop off some of the RHS to eliminate the youngster peeking out from behind the rock. Next perhaps a tad more contrast.

Other than that a very nice image of an unusual animal.

Hi Jonathan, I think you should take you Mum out more often she is certainly 'Lady Luck' for you in getting these images.

Personally I like it as presented, the 'kids' head is a nice touch and takes it up a notch in content, well seen IMHO. Somehow it reminds me of the boy that always managed to get his photo in twice, in that school shot, but don't ask why! Perhaps I get the impression the youngster was being cheeky and thought, if Dad was being photograph I'd like a bit of the action too.

Not sure about adding a bit more Saturation, however there is a lot more detail I think you can extract from within the subject. In addition I would look at using Adjustment levels in Curves, Levels & Selective Colour just to give the image a bit more oomph. I could have knocked the density back on the BKG, but felt having it slightly darker gave more separation to the subject, but again, these suggestions are all personal. I also applied a channel mask to the adult, and dropped the Yellow about -15 in selective parts. Applied some more sharpening to the main subject and about 30% to the FG.

Be keen to know your thoughts Jonathan.

    Hi Jonathan
Like it as presented with the tweaks of Steve even more.
Nice pose of the buck and good placement in the frame, but i am not sure if the head of the youngster is adding anything interesting to the image, i personally would clone the head out.
The plants and lichens adding a nice colorful contrast to the monochrome look of the rest of the image.

    Cheers Andreas

    Nice photo.
Steve's repost work makes a much improved image for me. Especially how the goat pops out more from the BKG. And the green a bit less vibrant and distractive.
As for the younster's head, think I'd take it out - not by cloning but by cropping the right side.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I did prepare an image without the kid's head there but I submitted this one because I applied a little more sharpening and I wanted to gauge the consensus regarding the kid. Steve I like your interpretation very much - you have excellent detail in the billy and he stands out a little more. I think you have certainly enhanced the image, I am a little bit torn, I like yours but I think mine is closer to what the scene actually was. The jury is out for me I am unsure which I favour.

Hi Jonathan, no problem, I only RP to illustrate either my thoughts, and or, what there is within the image that still can be extracted, (albeit from a web image) and as I have said many times, it is for the owner to distill from the comments & feedback and to see which way they may wish to take the image.
