Default Chinstrap Penguins declining on Antarctic Peninsula

In the 17 years I have been returning to Antarctica, I have noticed this decline and that's without doing any counts, just "eyeballing" the changes. The work Ron Naveen et al. has done was on the big colonies at Deception Island but is consistent with trends elsewhere on the peninsula. Deception Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the peninsula but it appears that the declines seen here and elsewhere are independent of tourism and are likely related to unprecedented warming of the area caused by climate change.

Thanks for the heads up. Did not know you were a regular to Antarctica. Planning 2013 trip. Might like some input if you are so inclined
