    Default Over-Under Bullfrog Fract

Back from several days up north at the cabin on Horseshoe Lake near Parry Sound, Ontario. I decided to play around with some over-under photos of frogs in a ten gallon aquarium that I placed on the dock. We have lots of frogs that hang our along the shoreline of the lake and on one day I found this juvenile Bullfrog, so I scooped it up and placed it in the tank for a 10-15 minute photo session. As usual I fracted it

    Look forward to comments.

Great idea and I love the results great colors and pose. I should have kept one of those 10 gallon aquariums that I gave away! How did you get the green background above the water and grey below - is this natural background?

Hi Laurie, thanks very much. The colors are natural. The green is the out-of focus forest but I did clone in a little extra green for more even look. The grey below bugs me a little, but I guess it could pass for a sandy bottom I suppose. These frogs are hanging out on our sandy beach anyway. The grey is actually the out-of-focus decking of the dock. This has been a bit of a learning experience for me. I will now paint the underside of this tank a dark brown color to resemble the substrate of most ponds, not sure if I should be painting the back glass of the tank or not...will have to experiment some more...hopefully before they go into hibernation

This is fantastic Andrew! I love it! I think a little blue paint on the back of the tank might look good. You could also select the frog and everything but the water and put it on a layer and tint the water with a fill layer or painting it on.

This is outstanding! Using an aquarium is brilliant... I first thought you may have used underwater camera housing Love the angle of the shot and the popped-up eye. As always fract adds a new dimension to the image and works well in this case. Wonderfully done!

This one is great! Love the under-over, and your control of the fract was just right. (he seems to be smiling)

Great shot with lots of imagination. The one eye breaking the surface puts it way over the top. I actually really like the colors just as they are.

Andrew, late to the party but ditto the above comments. The aquarium is a fantastic idea!!! Instead of painting the sides, could you tape colored art paper to the outside? That way you could change it to a different color if you wanted to

Thanks for the kind words folks..very much appreciated.

I will experiment with the paper idea..I had done that before with a small 2.5 gallon tank that I had used to photograph fairy shrimps and mosquito larva some time ago, but first I need to buy a new 10 gallon tank to dedicate to this purpose as the one I have has too many small scratches on the glass. These scratches don't pose a problem if the frog is not too close to the glass, but this guy is right up against the glass and the scratches were very visible. This brings me to the one detail I did not mention as I was unsure if it would work or not so I thought I'd see if others could notice anything or not. I made a selection of the frog and the waterline, using Topaz ReMask, and then applied a heavy handed gaussian blur to the background to remove the scratches.

    Thanks again.

I don't know if this was your intention, but this image made me laugh out loud with delight! Great position of the legs, and those eye above water are perfect. The fractilus is just right. Excellent! You made my day.
