    Default Great Bittern in blizzard

Thanks for the comments on my last image.

This is another Bittern, taken in London in blizzard conditions at the end of 2010. The cold weather forces them out onto the ice, and they become far more conspicious. This was the last image I took before I had to leave, and was my favourite from the day.

I am delighted to say that this image has been highly commended in this year's Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition 2012!

    Taken with a D300s, 200-400mm f4, Tripod

    Thanks for looking

Congratulations Oscar!! I like the mood you got here...it's just that the small web version does not do it justice, and there is compression pixelation in the sky and ground. I can just picture how impressive the image must be viewed large.

This is excellent. A picture like this reminds me of the classic nature photographs. Context is king! Thank you for sharing this, and congratulations on the prestigious commendation...

This image is outstanding, Oscar. It's ironic that when I went to view your photos when you first signed up for BPN that this one really stood out to me. Glad to see it earned the honor it so richly deserves!!! You must be elated!

Nice one Oscar, conveys the scene, time of year very, very nicely.
