    Default Hello from Manchester UK

Hello, I have just signed up as a paid member. I have been a viewing participant for a while and have now plucked up the courage to post some of my images- expect to get some hefty critique to start with and maybe for many years to come.
I have been a birdwatcher for most of my life- 48 yrs- and was sucked into the photography side of this fascinating hobby about 3 years ago. I have my friend Adrian Dancy to thank-or hate- for this. I am now many pounds poorer!!, but I feel a lot richer in getting enjoyment out of our hobby. I started with a second hand set up then moved to a 50D and 400 f5.6 ( still have both as back up)and over the last year or so have upgraded to my current gear. 1DmkIV, Canon 500 f4is + other bits and bobs. I am a full time police officer and get plenty of days off during the week. If any forum members come over to the UK and wish to meet up I will be more than willing to arrange some birding/photography in the damp, wet, North West of England. I also travel around the UK and holiday in Europe, trying to mix both family holiday and birding if possible.

Hi Ivan, a warm welcome, or should I say 'Evening all...'

Well you certainly get good advice and you will find the more you participate, the more you get from the Forum, it can be addictive, be warned. The best thing is just to get stuck in both in terms of posting images, but just as importantly, contributing to other members posts too. You will find a wealth of knowledge on here, so don't be afraid to ask or just sift through the various sections. Enjoy!

    All the best.

Welcome aboard, Ivan. I started out as a birder many moons ago and adding photography to the mix made it that much more fun...albeit costly!! It helps to have the birding knowledge avian photography b/c you can better anticipate behavior, etc. Glad to hear you are going to post...as a matter of fact, I think I may have commented on your first thread in Avian earlier today. Sometimes we are a bit tough on each other in here, but it's b/c most of us really want improve. We don't always agree with the critiques/comments. You can take in what works for you and throw out what doesn't. Looking forward to seeing more of your images. I think your first was a fine raptor if I remember correctly.
