I am not so sure that this is the best crop, sort of like it and was happy to get this shy birdy in the open for a change. So decided to post it.

    J,

Well you are certainly correct in saying you rarely get then in the open

I think the crop works quite well, a bird pano makes a change.

Nice detail, but I wonder if the yellow is a bit strong most noticeably in the breast feathers?

Must agree with Ken, nice to see one out in the open, all my images of this bird are "In the Bush" :-)
Good detail and nice eye contact.
Ditto Ken on the strong yellow.

I like the crop, the image design, the bird, and the head angle. For the repost I lightened the head with a 30% Detail Extractor layer from NIK Color Efex Pro. I reduced the YELLOW and added a bit of sharpening.

For more info on NIK see "Pan Faster" here and scroll down.

ps: I do like the dark smudges but for the stuff that merges with the bird's head.

I really liked the pano crop, pose, HA and sharpness...Artie's "NIK" magic takes it to next level and I too would clone some dark smudge around head but that is a small nit.

Lovely capture and pano crop,Johan. The re post has improved a good image even further.Agree with Arthur on the smudge merging with the head. Could carefully remove some of it if you are ok with it.

No problema JvN. My best advice: get yourself a copy of our Digital Basics File. For the YELLOWs, I went to Hue/Saturation, picked YELLOW from the drop-down menu, and moved the saturation slider about 20 points to the left.
