    Default Cedar Waxwing on Concrete...

    Hello folks
Well then, here is another cedar waxwing, posing for us on a beautiful slab of concrete! I enjoy a perch like this although of course many will hanker for something more natural? Taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 214mm. iso800, 1/400, 5.6...this is approximately 85% of the original capture. The format is a near-square and the subject is pretty much in the center of frame. It works for me. What say you? Thank you again for your time and consideration...

I would love to get just a glimpse of one of these gorgeous birds!!! They were in the area last season, but I had other eggs to fry. You have a spot on exposure here and great details and colors. The only thing not working for me is the comp. Only on rare occasions do I really feel that a square crop is pleasing.

Hi lo yo, Marina...any suggestions for improvement? I'm on the fence about the comp myself. The original looks just like this but with MORE concrete on the right...I'd love to have sympathy for you, Ms Florida, but not when I think of your wonderful waders and shorebirds and those crazy cute little owls and oh boy oh oh boy! I'll finally be taking my first Florida trip (since boyhood) this winter. Can't wait...

I just noticed the tiny piece of crud 'neath the CW's festive tail. Yikes!

You don't have too many options with crops here IMO. I would go with a conventional vertical. Use the rule of thirds and put the bird's head/eye near the upper left intersection something like this. For me, this crop shows off your gorgeous bird better rather than drawing your eye to all the cement and green BG.

Beautiful bird Jack. I do like Marina's crop better, although I rarely prefer verticals.
