Default A snowy day for a kingfisher

А photo from today, a small lake, near Sofia, Bulgaria.

The image is far frow a good quality one, but the mood and falling snowflakes appeal to me very much.

The pink eye is corrected using simple brush tool technique.

Conditions: a dark day with heavy clouds (05.jan / 150)

    Other: almost 90 % crop
    40D + 300mm f/4
manual mode -> 1/1000, f/7.1, ISO 500, fill flash with better beamer.

I like the mood of this one. Some of the oof snow flakes look too much like dust and should be cloned out. Some of the others add to the image though. I'd be tempted to play around in PS with this one using some of the creative options & filters.

Cool bird, wonderful color, great wing position, but the whole bird looks looks soft and the head is unfortunately way out-of-focus...

Try a contrast mask: Unsharp mask at 20/80/0 and see if that helps...

    later and love,

    Hi Nikolay,

Nice winter scape and great wing position.

It does look a bit soft to me, maybe you could work on the eye a bit for the illusion of more sharpness, like cloning out some of the catch light?

Thank you for the suggestions! The trick with the clone out of the eye's cach light is so resourceful, i wonder myself how couldn't think of it till now :)
