    Hi

    This is a CR/Panama endemic.
Captured at the south end of its range in Savegre.
I have seen one perched like this before!

Hello Richard. Nice to have an endemic so close. The head of the bird looks unsharp for me. Seems like your focus was more on the wing. Composition wise I'd prefer more room in front of the bird and less behind. I'd also darken the perch a bit. TFS.

    Thanks Lorant.

Sharpened, hlt burn to branch;yes position would be better but cropped like this, as there was a horrendous burnt out branch to LHS, way beyond my cloning ability !

btw your website and photos on there are stunning

Nice bird, and somehow an atypical woodpecker pose. Sharpening was needed on the original, but I am not sure the image quality holds up to the sharpening in the repost. Was this a large crop? The softness on the original has me a little confused, as the near wing and leg and branch behind seem more in focus. Could the softness be the result of subject movement. Most woodpecker images I try to get are soft or non-existent due to that ;).

    Hi Ben

Focus point was lower right of head central to top of start of the b&w of body.
softness probably from use of low luminance NR on he bird; I should refrain from that.
So little time to get some of these shots, thats why I love it

Unfortunately, even sharpened, the bird looks soft. It doesn't appear as though your focal point was on the bird's head. I'm really liking your perch and vegetation. I think I would give it just a tad more room above and on the left.

    Thanks Marina

Having reexamined raw, not sharp where focus point lies in DPP, therefore conclude slight motion probable. Use servo mode next time :-)
