These birds proved extremely difficult to capture very well(must be all of the black?) They are very different to their Southern African cousins, most notably the casque.
Here is another image from my visit to Kidepo National Park, Northern Uganda, 14th June 2012
That's a great looking bird...your blacks look fine. Just above the head, there are some strange spots...I'd clean them up if your ethics allow, just so they don't draw the viewer's attention.
Seem like the light is coming from the top, would be nice if the sun is more on your side so it will put a catch light in the eye and make it more lively. Having the sun on your side probably help illuminate the black more, however I can still see details in the black as it is now. Nice framing and good environment shown.
Grace,
You have spotted some disgraceful processing by me, rather than darken the BG on a layer and then erasing the rest I for some unknown used Magic Wand, so the marks are self made, silly me.
Many thanks for pointing it out, I will have a go at tidying it up

Is there a bird you did NOT see on this trip?!!
Great look at this bird.
Blacks look good as well. A low POV would have put this over the top but realize you were limited to the jeep.

Hi Ken, love the 'head gear' on this fellow, and certainly different to ours. Well exposed on the dark plumage, and I would maybe give this a touch of CCW rotation.
Gail,
Well we certainly saw some different birds on this trip to Uganda, unfortunately not all of them were within range, but still great to see. Uganda is an amazing birding destination, the animals are pretty good as well
was reding this species is doing reasonably well but the other Southern is listed as vulnerable and only living in National Parks.
I watched many Southern around the parks when I lived in Zambia/Kenya but never too pics of birds lol
thanks for the memories
