    Default Skimmer in Flight

Took this shot of Skimmer at Nikerson Beach towards the end of June.I particularly like this shot with the path underneath giving impression that the Skimmer is following suit.

    D300s, 300MM F2.8 AFS-I + TC 14e, 1/500s ,f 7.1 , ISO-200,Manual Exp on Tripod with Gimbal Head.

Thanks for Viewing and appreciate your Critiques & Comments.

Good dorsal view and nice catchlight in the eye.
The blacks, unfortunately, do not show any detail. The whites are a bit hot as well. I suspect the light was fairly harsh or perhaps a large crop?
Were you really at an ISO of 200? I would have preferred to see you at ISO 400 and double the shutter speed.

Thanks for your feedback,Gail. Actually it is partly both I must Say.This is 60% crop of the original. The sun was pretty up in the sky for 7 AM and hence the Light was also a bit harsh. The ISO was set constant @ 200.Might have to change the settings in the future. Thanks for the advice.

I like the bird's incoming pose and the BG is pretty neat. I'm sure you can recover some of the blacks and and highlights during raw conversion. Although this image is sharp for web posting I agree that a higher ISO and SS would yield better results for flight or action. With today's cameras nicely handling higher ISOs I do not remember the last time I have been lower than ISO 400, even in brighter light.

Interesting topside view of this bird which we don't often see, and I like the unique BG. I would start over with processing on this one b/c you can easily get the blacks and whites just right based upon what I just saw in Photoshop. Agree regarding your ISO. I never go below ISO 400 when I am photographing birds, and my normal setting is 640 b/c I would rather have the speed and the DOF.
